Today's guest bloggers are Caty Ubertini and Brianne Walker. They blogged our trip on Saturday on "La Ruta de los Castillos" or in English "The Castle Route." With the exception of the map, the wording and photos that follow are all theirs so enjoy! Las autores guapas, Caty and Brianne. We’re in Spain! We have only been here for a week, but have already done so much. We went on our first excursion yesterday to a monastery, a castle, and a winery. The name of the monastery was Santa María la Real de Nieva. An interesting thing was the picture on the top of each column. Each picture tells a different religious story. During that time, the people could not read so the only way they could understand was through these pictures. The castle de Coca was grand and regal. We climbed little steps up a narrow hallway. We learned about the history of the castle and saw beautiful views. In this particular winery, they make white wine only. We learned about the process of wine making. The grapes go through many machines for fermentation and clarification. After the tour, we tasted some of their wine. It was delicious! The building was an old cattle farm that had been repurposed and there was an amazing wooden ceiling that was making noise because of he change in temperature from cold to warm which can be heard here: roof. We ate lunch in a little town called Turégano. We ate lamb, salad, and pasta. With lunch we all had a little bit of red wine. After lunch we walked around Turégano and around the castle that was there. Finally, we visited Pedraza, a town where many rich people live. There was a fantastic view and a castle. We took many photos! (Don’t you worry parents… there are lots of photos). There’s no telling what we’ll do next (unless you read the schedule) the possibilities are endless in Spain!

I absolutely loved this excursion! There was so much detail in all of the columns at the monastery, and I loved how each column told a different story. The Castillo de Coca was also really cool, and I'm glad we were able to go inside. My favorite part of the trip was visiting Pedraza. I want to live there one day!!

This has definitely been one of my favorite excursions so far. I loved every place we visited and the history they entailed. The Castillo de Coca was really neat, with its many spiral staircases it's probably a pretty easy place to get lost (good thing someone always made sure we went in the right direction). We ate lunch at a really adorable place and it was great, however, I did find out that lamb is not one of my favorite dishes. Oh, and don't let me forget to mention the town of Pedraza was absolutely beautiful. All in all this was a very memorable excursion and made for some pretty great pictures as well!

This excursion was filled with beautiful sights and awe. The monastary was pretty, and I absolutely loved being able to run around the castle. There is something inherently magical about these places in Spain. Perhaps it is the rich history! I also enjoyed being able to tour the winery because I love wine and I am always interested in how things work and the processes that went into making objects.

This excursion was a blast! I enjoyed exploring all of the castles and the courtyard of the monestary. Pedraza was my favorite part. The small mideival town was enclosed by a wall, had its own castle, and was surrounded by the mountains. It seemed like it belonged in a fairy tale! I could see myself living there! I also enjoyed the scenery on the bus ride, I had no idea how mountainous and beautiful Spain is!

Looking back, this is still one of my top excursions! The monastery was beautiful and Pedraza was totally breathtaking. I wish we hadn't taken that weather for granted! I would happily go back to any and all of these places!

This is tied for first place with Salamanca for me. I really, really enjoyed this excursion. It's indescribable to walk through ancient castles and see how people lived hundreds of years ago. Castillo de Coca and the ancient ruins of Turegano are amazing! It was great to walk through, eat a big lunch (except the lamb) and spend a beautiful day en el campo.

Great pics! I loved the walk through Coca, and the lunch in Turégano was buenísimo! The monastery was very iconic with it's columned walkways and open courtyard, but the details were great. Every column had detailed depictions of everything from the passion of christ to dragons! The interior parts of the building were rather erie, though. Great trip!

I loved this excursion because it was all about castles and wineries. The castles are incredible and I think I will be moving in next week. The attention to detail is unreal and I cannot think of a better way to learn about history than to actual stand in the place that it happened. I am so glad that I chose Segovia as my study abroad destination!

Wow! This is on the top of my list for favorite excursions. It has been on my bucket list to go a winery and actually learn how they make such delicious wine. I would have never guessed that the process took as long as it did, but tasting the wine at the end made me realize that its soooo worth it :). I cant wait to give my mom her present from la bodega!

This excursion was really cool! I had so much fun exploring the Castillo de Coca and it had some amazing views too. I learned a lot at the winery but couldn't handle the tasting - too strong for me! I really enjoyed Pedraza. I wish we could have spent more time there and learned more about its history.
